怀念英政府

双溪毛儒麻疯病院还没有被列入国家文物遗产，卫生部要发展部分地段，发展商强拆房屋，谁是谁非，这绝对可以成为家长为孩子小学毕业前吉隆坡一日游的一次游学项目，也可以作为中学生的辩论比赛的辩题，更可以成为大学生对文史研究及其省思的相关论文题目。

在没有历史荣誉感的国家，“发展”是硬道理，更何况这里的旧房子“白白”霸占了逾562英亩的土地，这么大快的肥肉不分点出去，真有点说不过去。说来也是，麻疯病院是英国人的杰作，土著思维的政府是没有理由会去“锡”住一件外国作品的。况且这里有许多房子已经空置，有些也破旧不堪，没有功能性的建筑物如同不能生育的甫乳动物，没啥价值。

那天和友人特别到访此地，看着这里一间间独特的小房子，非常适合散步的小道，草坪、树木。。。我心里对这里非常人道主义的规划和建设感到惆然的失落，也许这一切即将消失了。从尚存留并操作的病院来看，虽然比现在许多医院看起来残旧，但可以想象70多年前，来自世界各地的医学专家来到这里，非常认真的研究麻疯病的治疗方法，细心地照顾病人，使这里成为世界研究麻疯病最先进的地区之一。这是你可以从记载的史料和这些还保留着的遗迹里感受到的。他们不会因为午餐和祈祷时间而不去照顾病人，也不会因为你没有信用卡或现金不够注册而拒绝你入院，就算你就快要死了，现在的医疗人员也有他们要忙的理由。

是的，这里还有基督教堂、天主教堂、回教堂。。华人修道院等，每家每户都有自己的小草坪，让病人种种花草，调心养病，英国人对麻风病人的照顾可是精神和肉体兼顾的，不分种族信仰，人道之极，说句杀风景的话“有咁好死冇！”，是的，就是有！如果病人被家人遗弃，也有人帮他们体面地处理身后事，用现在的话就是一条龙服务！

我们也去看已经被发展商拆除了部分房院的东院一带，这才发现用来建供病人修养的房子和病院的瓦片竟然都是法国进口的，用了超过70年里面竟然还和新的差不多，怪不得发展商都把这些瓦砖留起来，看来他们是捡了便宜货，即使再用来盖新楼，应该也不会像新法院那样漏水吧。可见我们的英殖民政府可是一点也不吝啬，一瓦一砖都是真材实料，即使是用来建给被世人嫌弃的麻疯病人。

想起曾在一次的座谈会上听一位年长的听众如何痛数前英殖民政府不是，说当年英国人如何剥削我国人民，如何强取豪夺我们的资源。我在想，英国人走了50年了，这50年我们的资源都好好地被我们自己利用了吗？这50年我们学乖了吗？如果不好好善用我们的资源，不会管理，与其暴殄上天所赐恩物，就不如交给更善于管理的人用好了！？也许这位阿叔已经享有我国丰富资源的好处，这几十年来都没发觉豺狼是怎样当街当巷横着走路的，要骂已经走了半个世纪的英国人，很安全，不像律师公会那班人，为了保全大英帝国留下的司法制度的独立而游行，还要被我们的部长骂“笨蛋”！但我绝对相信这班接受英式法学训练的律师们比我们一些老前辈来得清醒，至少他们知道还是英国佬的东西好，谁才是笨蛋， 请放心，他们都很清楚。

50年了。。。认了生父，才发现养母的好，说起来真是一缸眼泪，无数唏嘘！

全身上下就数头上的那些瓦片最值钱，所以一早被扒光，身子的命运就坎坷得多了！原本只来走走，却意外看见拆除工程在“悄悄”进行

The Haunts of Valley of Hope

Last weekend, Me, Josh Hong, Josh Pang and Shue Fei went to Sungai Buloh Leprosarium, Valley of hope, where another place of heritage value will soon give way to development. Before that, we were told earlier that May 13 victims were “secretly” buried in a cemetery nearby where outside world would hardly know where is it…so, we went there, and Shue Fei, who is a responsible and hard working reporter, brought everything a reporter needed for a field study, she wrote down all the victims name, including all plot she could find on the grave, family members of the victims, place of birth, date of death…

I couldn’t remember what is the official number reported death by the government, 200+ or 300? but the small piece of land laid 102 gravestones, some without name, some were rebuilt by their families years later. We were told later by a villager who stay there for more than 40 years, there were ‘many” bodies carried by few lorries from KL, they dump the bodies into a “pool” dig earlier, and of course, no villager were allowed to get close to that place….when we asked how many bodies exactly? He said “many….many… more than thousand…” could it be a real figure? I really have no idea. But I know there are many “secrets” yet to be exposed, and the gap of the history is yet to be told with true evident. The most important is, what we can actually learn from here?

诸葛亮还是猪哥靓?!

拜读马华领袖黄家定马华公会总会长黄家定日前在中国北京会见我国留学生时，批评在野党有勇无谋，并说要争取政府承认中国大学的文凭必须要有诸葛亮的计谋，因为“有些人吃软不吃硬，低声下气是和他们协商的唯一办法”之新闻。（见独立新闻在线）。不知道留学在我大中华这块孕育了诸葛亮这类人物的土地的我国学生，是否在大学这几年的黄金岁月里读过了这本中国四大古典文学名著之一的《三国演义》？本人才疏学浅，只看过一遍，对诸葛亮的认识，几乎只限他是位足智多谋， 有着政治、军事、外交方面超人的智慧的人物等深入民间所共同认知的形象，今天听我马华人的口里说的诸葛亮， 实实地让我心里吃慌，我竟不知道原来诸葛亮有那么一招，而且看似唯一的绝招，是那么地让我们马华领袖钦佩，而且屡试不爽！赶紧回家找出我那本厚厚的《三国演义》，但实在没办法一口气看完它，于是上网google search 一下，求救于三国的网迷（现代懒人的方法），为了即准确又快速地找出我要的答案，我打了“诸葛亮的计谋，低声下气“，可惜出来的result除了带我回到独立新闻在线的以上报道外，别无他迹可循，看来随队前往北京的马大中国研究所所长何国忠应该写一篇相关的文章post 上网，拓广大家的视野和思维。
不过，在我看来这位遇上了一位明主来三顾茅庐（其明主看来有点低声下气），并让他施展他的才华的诸葛亮，连曹操也畏他三分的谋略家，如此完美（人都爱神化自己所敬仰的人物），若要低声下气地求人承认他，我想英明的君主应该早早把他一脚“样“开，因为此人非真卧龙，乃猪哥一名也！

色、戒是教人期待的一部电影，李安加上张爱玲，暗杀、特务、爱恨交织。。老上海。。啊，多么教人期待呀！李安导演还说过他好一阵子都活在活在张爱玲的故事里面，她的圈套里面，坦白说，我还没读过张爱玲的这部小说，但相信很快就会找来读，这次两位大师跨时空的合作，肯定大有看头，真希望电检局的人一刀也别剪！

It is natural disaster or human disaster?

Massive illegal logging, slow relief operations, incapable crisis management skills, unbelievably and irresponsible decisions to release excess water from upstream rivers without warning and planning for downstream flooding and evacuation, outdated drainage system...etc, Malaysians have suffered enough the feeling of frustration and disappointment with our imcompetent government.

The heavy rainfalls which has resulted in many of southern states - Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan to suffer severe flood, is to be expected affecting the Klang Valley area if the heavy rainfalls and wind condition persist. What we have learned from the states now suffering so-called natural disaster? Many flood victims suffered hunger for more than 70 hours, 6 death was reported for now. Is that merely because of the "unexpected and unusual" weather conditions? What if it happens in Klang Valley and it surrounding areas? Could it be any difference? I doubt, and I pray as well for the people who has lost their homes and their loved one, and the stituation will not worsen.

Malaysia bodoh!? Who Cares!!

The article written by an Australian writer and columnist, Micheal Backman 'While Malaysia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry', published in The Age newspaper on November 15, has stirred up quite a significant reflection among Malaysians. Know what? Our International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz replied:

"What do we care? Obviously, this person doesn’t know Malaysia. He is an outsider and he can say what he likes. I well don’t really care about what others say – as long as it is not a Malaysian saying it,”

Well well, i guess the 95% of e-mails and messages which have been a supportive response to backman's article as he alleged here, are Not Malaysians, or least, they are Not patriot!!

Malaysian Citizens' Five-Points Demand on World Press Freedom Day, 3 May 2006

The Worldwide Press Freedom Index published by RSF has seen an improvement of Malaysia's position from the 122nd in 2004 to 113th in 2005, both as a result of positive measures by the Abdullah administration and as adeterioration in media freedom in other countries. However, the survey is limited to the year to 1st September 2005. In the past seven months, we have seen serious violations and restrictions on media freedom.

Each new prime minister in Malaysia vows to increase the people's freedom. Yet, as former prime ministers know, there is still no freedom for effective dissent or meaningful public debate. Before the exclusive club of dissatisfied former Prime Ministers grows larger, this must be changed.

Since after the fall of Marcos's dictatorship and the victory of people power, everything is seems possible in Philippines....They can openly urge the president to step down though not so easy this time against Arroyo....they have all kinds of printed materials distributing freely all around in Philippines.....despite of the dissentient voices, freedom of expression is being upholding without things like ISA or OSA...

Err......hmm hmm..... as I said....everything is possible in Philippines, but is there anything to do with Labor day? Not even my Filipino comrades comprehend either. Anyway, wish you all Happy Labour Day!!! Cheers! :-)

Progressive youth meeting in Manila

Yes, there were some progressive young people gathering in Manila and it was a progressive regional meeting as well. IUSY Asia-Pacific Committee Meeting, which held last week in Manila was a meeting involved significant discussion and debate on the IUSY Asia-Pacific theme 2006- Decent work – Decent life. The representatives of IUSY member organizations from Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Philippines were actively attended the meeting. There were also few representatives of the IUSY presidium from Norway and Sweden as well. Thomas and I were represented Dapsy to attend the meeting this year. It was of cause a pleasant and fruitful trip for me.

You are invited to a Toy Symphony!

A Toy Symphony is the story of 10 rag-tag toys who were left behind in the toy maker's workshop. As a result, they never made it to the toy shelf for display hence their loneliness and longing to be owned by a child. They share each other's dream of getting "there" so that they can bring joy to a young soul. Their dream however, seems to be futile as for many years, they still have no idea how to get to the toy shelf.
One day a new toy - Mike the Mechanic - joins them at the workbench. Mike is a new-fangled toy that was sent back to the workshop to be repaired. The toys find a great friend in Mike, and to top it all off, he knows the way to the toy shelf. He has been there. Mike ignites a fire in their hearts as he "shows" them the way to get there.
As the story unfolds, see for yourself how love can change the way we live. This production is fully narrated with mime and dance to portray the emotions and thoughts of a group of toys - animated in looks but very much human in nature.

Open Submission of Caricatures for DAP Socialist Youth
to publish a Comic Book on
“Say No to Fuel Hike”
This comic is specifically presented to those who had unquestionably
supported Pak Lah in the last general election, BUT now suffer tremendously due to his Fuel Hike Policy

Objective:
To have an avenue for people to air their political and economic grouses through caricatures.

DAPSY will publish the collection of caricatures in both Malay and Mandarin languages. Selected art-works will be published in the Rocket. All contributors will get a token of appreciation.

Target:
Public are welcomed to contribute any ideas of caricatures, irrespective of age, gender and etc.
The local comic artists will be invited to make their contribution.

Contents:
1. The fuel hike saga and its implications.
2. Why the fuel hikes although we are the petroleum producer? Where did money go?
3. Why we cannot share equally the benefit of Petronas and government?
4. How could we change our lifestyle when the senior government officers did not showed by examples?
5. Why the price hike of goods and services could not be allowed although the government allowed the fuel hike?

Rules and regulations:
1．The artists can submit various designs irrespective of size, but the designs must be drawn in black colour. The use of pencil or pen could not be allowed.
2．The designs will be also reserved for other purposes.
3．The artists will be paid for their printed contributions.
4．The closing date is 19 April 2006.
5．The selection committee will be formed to judge the designs and its decision is final.

What a sigh, our history textbook!

Should history textbooks make you love your country? Most people would probably answer "yes." But what is the purpose to learn history? Should history only highlighted the "radiant" side in order to feed the egos of those dim-witted imbeciles. (I like this adjective and borrowing it from Tony's statement on history here. :)) Someone said that "if you don't know history, you remain forever a child." Somehow, our dim-witted politicians prefer our younger generation would be better not to know so many things than to know so many things that are not so....got it?

In fact, we all know that this "incomplete and imbalanced" approach to Malaysia history and culture can serve no positive purposes. Only by correcting these historical myths and misconceptions, it could help combat bigotry and ethnocentrism and teach us to value our nation's diversity. By making history more inclusive, it can broaden our perspective, allowing us to see through other peoples' eyes, and therefore temper cultural misunderstandings. But, in the globalizational era like now, our YBs boleh faham kah!?
